| 1939 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Super Sport Corsa Re-body S/N 913213 Engine No. 923827 Red with Red Leather The 6C 2500 was Alfa Romeo’s ultimate development of the 6C series prior to World War II. The 6C’s, which had begun in 1925 with the 6C 1500, were available in a wide range of styles, from luxurious sedans to full on competition cars. Indeed, a 6C 2300 won the touring car class and 4th overall at the 1937 Mille Miglia, amply demonstrating the sporting capability and durability of the 6C. The ultimate 2500 was the Super Sport Corsa, of which just eight were built. The car was purportedly good for 125mph, and was clothed with striking lightweight bodywork. While not as searingly fast as the supercharged 8C’s, the naturally aspirated engine and lighter weight of the 6C made them ideal for longer events like the Mille Miglia. This particular car is collaboration between respected Alfa Romeo restorer Conrad Stevenson and the late Ken Shaff, who bought this car together as a complete project in 1991. They sourced a pre-war Super Sport motor, correct to the body configuration the car now wears, and spent many years reconstructing and restoring the car to its current configuration. The car was eventually completed in 2004, at a cumulative cost of nearly $200,000. The chassis, engine, gearbox, and brakes are all pre-war 6C items, and the body is a faithful recreation of the stunning Mille Miglia bodywork, manufactured by Mr. Stevenson. The car has been used in numerous events since, including the California Mille in 2004 when Mr. Stevenson and Mr. Shaff ran the car together. The car has been shown at the Palo Alto Concours, and has run the Monterey Historics several times (2005, 2008, 2009), most recently in 2009 when the car won a Rolex Award for group 1A. The car also ran a CSRG event in September of 2009. The car is in very nice cosmetic condition, with a beautifully made and very attractive Corsa type body. The panels were capably made in aluminum, and the car has nice race cosmetics. The paintwork is in very nice condition, though it does display some orange peel. The trim is excellent throughout, as are the wheels and Michelin tires. The glass and lights are in good shape, including the correct Carello headlamps. The interior is spare and functional, with a vintage correct feel through touches such as the Bosch ignition switch, dashboard mounted turn signal switch, and lovely intricate gauges. The leather upholstery is mellowing nicely and was done to beautifully done to the highest standards by Ken Nemenick. The engine compartment also has a lovely vintage feel and has a tidy and functional aesthetic. The spark plug wires are the correct fabric covered items, and the ancillaries are correct in appearance throughout, from the carburetors with velocity stacks, to the distributor, ignition coil, and fuse block. This is a totally unique opportunity to acquire a lovingly rebuilt Alfa Romeo 6C that accurately captures the striking aesthetics and performance of the Super Sport Corsa. With just eight examples constructed, the original examples are extremely expensive when they do come up, and this car is available at a small fraction of the price while still providing the same experience. Indeed, this car has participated in a number of exciting events including the Monterey Historics, CSRG events, and the California Mille.
